Celebrating Halloween with a Company-Wide Costume Contest

We recap this year's Halloween costume contest while reflecting on the benefits of holding work sponsored holiday events, and encouraging creativity in the workplace.

Benefits of Holding Holiday Events at Your Organization

Regardless of what you're celebrating this holiday season, the end of the year is full of days to observe. Studies have shown that holding events in the workplace, no matter how small, to recognize these occasions can have a variety of benefits.

In addition to boosting office morale, holiday or other non-work related events have been linked to improving culture by providing a space for cross-departmental employees to network who would not otherwise have the opportunity to do so. In hybrid and remote organizations, it allows employees to have face-to-face time to socialize with people they might have previously only met through a screen.

Additionally, work sponsored events are often a great way to demonstrate to employees that you are grateful for the work they do. Some corporate sponsored events are even an appropriate time to give shout-outs or awards to employees who are doing a particularly stand-out job in their role.

About Our Halloween Event

At High Purity New England (HPNE), we are no stranger to volunteering or holding events that celebrate special days, national month dedications, and our community. Among the many celebrations we had this year were creating a resolution wall in our facilities for the new year, hosting a panel for Women's History Month, and holding a company barbeque to celebrate the end of the summer. In honor of Halloween this year, we held a costume contest.

According to an article by the Harvard Business School, encouraging creativity in business can boost productivity, encourage innovation, and foster growth in your organizations. Due to the wide range of roles at our company, individuals exercise different levels of creativity on a day-to-day basis. It is our hope that, with events like our costume contest, employees who may not get to stretch their creative muscles as often are provided with a creative outlet.

Costumes could be submitted on an individual or group basis, and employees were encouraged to submit pictures of their pets in costume for an additional category. Our panel of judges were responsible for narrowing down submissions, which were then voted on by all in attendance at our first annual Halloween party. Thank you to all of our employees who took part in the contest!
