Wearing Red to Support Heart Health
Once again, #TeamHPNE is participating in National Wear Red Day, an annual holiday in February that aims to raise awareness for cardiovascular diseases.
The team at HPNE is proud to once again be participating in National Wear Red Day, with employees across the company donning their best red outfits to show support and raise awareness for cardiovascular disease.
What is American Heart Month?
Throughout February we also celebrate American Heart Month, which dates back to the first annual declaration of the month in 1963. The month would not be celebrated for the first time until February of 1964. Although there are multiple causes of heart and cardiovascular diseases, the first Report on Smoking and Health by the Surgeon General was published shortly after American Heart Month in 1964.
Today, this month is also a great time to show support for the cause by donating to the American Heart Association for the life saving work and research they conduct. Depending on your location, there may also be opportunities to volunteer in your area. To learn more, visit their volunteer opportunities page.
Cardiovascular Disease in the United States
According to the American Heart Association, heart disease remains the leading cause of death in the United States, with 382,820 deaths caused from coronary heart disease in 2020. Additionally, they list stroke and the fifth leading cause of death.
For more ways to support American Heart Month, you can visit the resource page provided by the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute, which includes an outreach toolkit, social media resources, and more.
Supporting Members of Our Community
Causes like National Wear Red Day are incredibly important to the team at HPNE, as the ultimate goal of the work we do is to improve the lives of patients. In addition to creating leading technology in the biotech industry in support of this goal, we hope that something as simple as encouraging our employees to wear red for the day can bring visibility to critical diseases, chronic conditions, and other health conflicts that are facing our community and beyond.
