Smithfield, Rhode Island – In early October, employees of High Purity New England (HPNE) held a Pink Out Day in honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness month to show our support, honor survivors, and remember those who lost their battle to this awful disease. Having employees of #TeamHPNE who have won hard fought battles against the disease, made the day that much more important to those who participated.

Starting in 1985, National Breast Cancer Awareness month has been held in October each year, to promote screening and prevention of the disease – because when breast cancer is detected early, and is in the localized stage, the 5-year relative survival rate is 99%. According to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, about 1 in 8 women (13%) will develop breast cancer over the course of their lives with an estimated 43,550 women dying from breast cancer in the U.S., this year alone.

While these statistics have improved greatly over the years, we believe that 1 is too many. Everyday, people around the world are diagnosed with life-threatening and debilitating disease such as breast cancer and everyday #teamHPNE bears this in mind when we get up and go to work. While HPNE is indirectly creating the vaccines, therapeutics, and drugs that treat these horrible diseases, we are directly supporting those who do, and it is with great pride that we do.

We currently support numerous companies researching and developing cures for various cancers including breast, blood, and ovarian cancer, among others. As of this month, there are currently 60+ pharmaceutical companies within our industry developing potential therapies and are in various stages of clinical development. Some of those companies include Genentech, Ambrx, and Innate Pharma – the full list can be found here. HPNE is proud to support those who are fighting back against breast cancer and joining the community in spreading awareness.
